Investment Philosophy
The Tata BSE Select Business Groups Index Fund seeks to replicate the BSE Select Business Groups Index (TRI).
Portfolio Positioning and construction
The index aims to replicate the BSE Select Business Groups Index with the below methodology:
- 30 constituents from the largest 7 business groups in India based on free float market capitalization are selected from the investment universe of BSE 500.
Stock Selection Criteria:
- The largest company based on 6 month average free-float market capitalization from every group is selected by default.
- The next 23 companies are ranked based on 6 month average free-float market capitalization and included in the index.
- Notable Exclusions: Companies from the Financial Services sector will be excluded.
- Group/Stock capping: Group and stock weight is capped at 23%.
- The index is rebalanced semi-annually.
New Group inclusion/exclusion:
- During reconstitution, the existing groups forming part of the index will not be excluded till they continue to be in the top 8 business groups by free float market capitalization.
- However, if a new group is ranked within the top 4 based on 6 month average free-float market capitalization, it will be included in the index and the existing bottom placed business group will be excluded from the Index.
