Understanding NSE Holidays 2026
Not every NSE holiday applies in the same way across all market segments. Depending on the segment, trading may be closed for the full day, only for a particular session, or may follow a separate holiday calendar altogether.
- Equity and Equity Derivatives: These segments generally remain closed for the full day on their notified trading holidays.
- Commodity Derivatives: Some holidays apply only to the morning session, with trading reopening in the evening. On certain holidays, both sessions remain closed.
- Currency Derivatives: Currency markets have some additional trading holidays in 2026, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, Gudi Padwa, Annual Bank Closing, and Id-E-Milad.
So, before placing a trade around an NSE holiday, check the holiday calendar for the specific market segment rather than assuming the entire exchange is closed.
